SLA Resources for New Term

Date: 29 08 2024

The SLA exists to support schools develop their school libraries and will help the experienced librarian and those new to the sector with no previous library training. We want each of your school libraries to help your school community and aim to make that as easy and as time saving as possible for you. We do this via our advice line – either by tel 01793 530166 or by email [email protected]. We also have many resources on our website to empower library staff, either compiled by the SLA or from members sharing their work, for which we are very grateful. However sometimes the choice is overwhelming and without knowing what documents are there you won’t know where to look. To this end we have produced a guide on locating resources will take you through steps to help you find the most popular documents. If you still cannot find something you think we should have, please do contact us as we likely can help.

The guide can be found by logging in and going here.

A new guide for the most used library management systems has been loaded so if you are new in post and unfamiliar with your LMS you are able to contact your provider to gain training and guidance.

There are many lesson ideas provided by members on the website but new resources of Library Lesson Planning & Library Lessons over term set out basics to teach students. Both these are drafts for you to complete as every school is unique and you will all have different amounts of time you have available to teach this in so do adapt as needed. These can be found by searching via keyword lesson plan and are on page 2 of the results.

A booklist on Protests and riots has been loaded if schools are doing any work to help their communities try to understand the feelings running high during August 2024.

As always the Library and Reading Planner lists useful dates to commemorate in school. You cannot cover them all, so select the ones most useful to your setting and focus your displays and promotions around them to showcase your stock. This can be found in the Resource Library keyword Planner. Don't forget to check back termly as it is constantly updated when dates are changed/confirmed.
