Library Leaders: Reimagining Reading in a Digital Age
In this webcast of a live session from May 2023, Professor Jennifer Rowsell will present recent research, theory, and practice on new trends in reading. She will give a landscape view of the key trends taking place in the reading world, focussing on how children and adolescents read through, across, and within screens, as well as the ways that these technologies impact reading and how digital reading affects our bodies, minds, senses.
In a world where it’s commonplace to navigate our days through screens, reading in schools has long been centred around print-based, book logic. However, with the global pandemic, reading on screens increased tenfold as teachers and students were forced to rapidly move online, and this pattern shows no signs of slowing down.
Featuring her own research and the latest scholarship, this webcast will give school library staff a contemporary perspective on ways to reimagine the next generation of reading theory and practice.
Professor of Digital Literacy at the School of Education, University of Sheffield, Jennifer is an interdisciplinary researcher who started out her scholarly career studying literacy from an ethnographic-multimodal lens that continues today.
