Library Leaders: Machine Thinking
This webcast of a live session in June 2023 will provide insight into contrasting perspectives on the meaning of AI and will discuss how it might be relevant to your school library work, including what this means for skills and competencies we need to develop as information professionals.

From eloquent (but unreliable) chatbots, like the infamous ChatGPT, to automated marking, Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems to now have a constant presence in the education news.

It is the subject of national and international policies as well as a cause of immense controversy, raising questions about bias, intelligibility and sustainability.

- To be aware of different definitions and perspectives on AI

- To understand the different ways AI might impact library services and work

- To analyse the implications for the role of school libraries and school library staff

Speakers
Andrew Cox is a senior lecturer at the Information School, University of Sheffield, and author of "The impact of AI, machine learning, automation and robotics on the information professions: A report for CILIP" (https://www.cilip.org.uk/general/custom.asp?page=researchreport)

Suvodeep Mazumdar is a Lecturer in the Information School at the University of Sheffield. His primary research interest is Big Data Analytics and Crowdsourcing. He conducts inter-disciplinary research on highly engaging, interactive and visual mechanisms in conjunction with complex querying techniques for seamless navigation, exploration and understanding of complex datasets and has applies his research in various application domains (such as health informatics, smart cities, emergency response etc.).
