At AISPP, the library is a central hub of inquiry, collaboration, and discovery. The Secondary Teacher Librarian plays a vital role in fostering a culture of reading, research, and academic integrity across the IB Middle Years, Diploma, and Career-related Programmes. This role requires expertise in curating diverse and relevant resources, guiding students and staff in effective research practices, and embedding information literacy into the curriculum. The Teacher Librarian also supports students in developing lifelong skills for critical inquiry, digital citizenship, and independent learning.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

● Curate, maintain, and expand the secondary library collection, ensuring resources are diverse, current, and aligned with the IB MYP, DP, and CP frameworks.
● Support DP Extended Essay, CP Reflective Project, and other research-based assessments by guiding students in advanced information literacy, academic writing, and ethical use of information.
● Collaborate with subject teachers to embed research skills and digital literacy into units of inquiry and subject-specific curricula.
● Teach and model academic integrity, including proper citation, referencing, and responsible use of information.
● Promote a love of reading for pleasure and purpose through reading programmes, author visits, book clubs, and school-wide literacy events.
● Integrate digital tools and platforms (including Follett or equivalent systems) to enhance access to resources and promote independent research.
● Provide support for teachers in locating and using resources to design inquiry-driven, concept-based units.
● Manage library systems, subscriptions, and databases to ensure accessibility for students and staff.
● Create a welcoming, inclusive, and stimulating library environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and collaboration.
● Contribute to co-curricular activities, clubs, and student-led initiatives connected to research, reading, and media literacy.
● Participate in professional learning and IB development to remain current with best practices in library science, digital literacy, and education.

 

Other duties and responsibilities:

 

● All faculty members at AISPP are expected to contribute to the school’s holistic life through involvementin our Co-Curricular Activities and with our school community. This may include carrying out additional activities as requested, and in line with the general expectations of this role.
● Travel and work on behalf of AISPP during times of school closure may be required. This can include work on evenings and weekends, ie. school trip chaperone.

 

Pre-requisites:

● Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
● Teaching certification or equivalent qualification.
● Experience working as a Teacher Librarian, preferably in an IB MYP, DP, or CP setting.
● Strong knowledge of information literacy, digital tools, and library management systems (Follett proficiency preferred).
● Understanding of the Extended Essay, Reflective Project, and inquiry-based research processes within the IB.
● Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and support diverse learners, including EAL students.
● Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
